Pi Network stands at the forefront of the cryptocurrency revolution, not only because of its unique mobile mining approach or its large community, but also due to its deep commitment to creating practical tools within its ecosystem.

The network pioneered the expansion of universal access to cryptocurrencies through a simple yet powerful invention of non-traditional mobile mining. What follows is a growing community with more than 47 million active members. In addition to accessibility, practicality is another fundamental purpose of the network. Accessibility answers the question, "How can people around the world, regardless of their economic circumstances and knowledge barriers, gain insight into their revolution by actually owning cryptocurrency?" The utility answers the question: "How can cryptocurrencies make positive changes in everyday life?" Or "What can cryptocurrencies be used for other than trading and financial purposes?" ”

The network has created various forms of utilities. You may be familiar with the Fireside Forum application that uses Pi for decentralized content creation, management, and review; the Staked DM feature that uses Pi for peer-to-peer connections in chat applications; wallet applications for directly paying for goods and services with Pi locally; KYC applications that use Pi to crowdsource the basic verification work within the community; or many applications created by Pi community developers that have compelling use cases for the Pi cryptocurrency. Applications enrich our lives in many ways and create diverse utilities for the network by innovatively integrating the Pi cryptocurrency.

What is a platform-level utility?
However, applications are not the only source for creating utilities; there is also great potential for creating utilities on the Pi platform. This potential depends on some unique collective resources of this cryptocurrency network, including but not limited to the following:

The scale and engagement of our community
Our collective attention
Our verified digital identity
Our large distributed computing node network

At a given point in time, there will be one person or another person engaged in one or another activity on the platform. The diversity of these activities has the potential to create different utilities for the Pi cryptocurrency. But if we evaluate our collective resources ) i.e., our presence and activity as a whole, (, how do we translate them into network-wide utility for each Pioneer held Pi?

This question is key to the creation of platform-level utilities. On every collective resource owned by the Pi community, it is possible to design and create Pi utilities. For example, the Pi cryptocurrency could potentially be used to access the massive attention resources of a large, engaged community in a diverse ecosystem, or to insert services involving ownership or requiring human authenticity into services backed by large cryptographies. A global human network for KYC – which will be a universal need in a future world where AI is ubiquitous – or the deployment of software products that require the powerful, reliable computing power of distributed systems, and so on. The above-mentioned collective resources of Pi contribute to the creation of utility on the platform, which will ultimately benefit all pioneers, as such real utility will seek to meet real human and evolving social and technological needs and will create an organic demand for Pi for every pioneer.

Pi's platform-level utilities are what the core team has been envisioning, researching, designing, and building, in addition to creating application-level utilities or enabling community developers to build applications through a variety of core team applications.

Roadmap v2, released in December 2023, lists a stealth project on platform-level utility functionality in the "Developer Platforms and Tools" section, which is being undertaken by the Pi Core team and is currently being designed and tested in stealth mode. The project is an early instantiation that aims to create theories and directions based on the utilities explained in this bulletin, leveraging some collective network resources. It has the potential to increase the overall utility of the Pi cryptocurrency and promote the sustainability of the Pi app in our ecosystem.

Editor: On March 8, 2024, the network released the first prototype of the platform-level utility -- Pi advertising network -- advertisers will ultimately need to acquire and use Pi to place advertisements within the Pi ecosystem and to deploy Pi applications on the Pi browser.

On March 14, 2025, the network launched another platform-level utility—Pi Domain Auction—giving participants and contributors in the Pi ecosystem the opportunity to acquire and customize .pi domains.
