United Nations Approves Blockchain Assurance and Standardization Dynamic Alliance to Research Emerging Technology
The consortium will work throughout the year in various fields and publish the results of various pilot projects to promote the use of blockchain technology.
The secretariat of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN-IGF) has approved the formation of a dynamic consortium aimed at developing blockchain standards for applications in various fields, including public services and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
The Dynamic Alliance for Blockchain Assurance and Standardization is supported and hosted by the Government Blockchain Association (GBA). Dino Cataldo Dell'Accio, Chief Information Officer of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, and Gerard Dache, Executive Director of the Greater Bay Area, will co-lead the project.
The consortium will primarily develop general and industry-specific blockchain standards for artificial intelligence; communications infrastructure; supply chains; digital identity; economic development and investment; environmental management; and public services such as voting, healthcare, and education.
The group has already begun piloting blockchain standards and developed a blockchain maturity model to provide a "roadmap" for organizations seeking to "develop trusted blockchain solutions."
The model can also serve as a litmus test for blockchain systems to ensure they comply with industry best practices and are not just a "hype prototype" that does not provide a real solution.
There are also ongoing blockchain pilots looking at how the technology can be used to improve voting and credit unions.
The alliance will work in various fields throughout the year and publish the results of various pilot projects to promote the use of blockchain technology and ensure that these systems are "high quality and interoperable."
The group will also submit proposals for workshops and panel discussions at the annual meeting of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum.
